Directory of Service Providers in County Clare (2002)

The Clare County Development Board has compiled a Directory of Service Providers in County Clare which identifies the services available to the people of Clare. This Directory is a vital step towards planning for integrated service delivery in Clare. It will act as an important resource for the people of Clare as it contains information on the different organisations throughout the county, their location, and the nature of the services, and/or programmes which they provide.

The Directory is divided into five main sections with a total of over 70 organisations listed - Local Government, Local Development, Social Partners, State Sector, and Countywide Community and Voluntary Groups. The Clare CDB will update this directory on an ongoing basis to reflect the changes in the services provided within the county.

Directory of Community and Voluntary Groups in County Clare (2003)

The Clare County Development Board has a database of nearly 400 Community and Voluntary groups in County Clare. This database has been developed over a number of years and is constantly being updated. Placing it on this website is an ideal medium to keep the information on the groups updated and relevant.

The process to develop this Directory began in the Summer of 2002. An advert was placed in the Clare Champion advising Community and Voluntary Groups of this event. A questionnaire was sent to the contact people of all the groups that the Directorate of Community and Enterprise has on their database.

The Directory is one of a number of publications undertaken by the County Development Board. It is divided into ten main sections as follows:

  1. Agriculture
  2. Environment
  3. Social Groups
  4. Arts, Culture and Heritage
  5. General
  6. Sports, Recreation and Leisure
  7. Community
  8. Health and Welfare
  9. Education and Training
  10. Residents Associations

If your organisation falls under one of these categories and is not included in this Directory, the Clare County Development Board invites you to submit your organisational details for inclusion in subsequent Directories

The Clare County Development Board has taken every action to ensure the accuracy of this Directory and therefore accept no liability for incorrect or inaccurate information.

The Future of Community Employment in County Clare (2004)

The Community & Enterprise, Section and the Clare Community Forum financed and facilitated a study of Community Employment in Co. Clare, following concerns by community groups in relation to the decrease in numbers on the Community Employment Scheme in County Clare.

CE participants, sponsors and supervisors were involved in the development of the report and it is their inputs that lead to the 10 recommendations detailed in the report. The report study was launched by Minister Síle deValera in May 2004.

Members of the CE Working Group and the Clare CDB met with Minister Fahey in relation to the study. The need to increase numbers on the CE scheme, the need to eliminate capping for those over 55 years and for those on Disability Allowance and the need to encourage more social inclusion type activities was discussed.

Members of SIM also met with Minister O’Cúiv in relation to aspects of the study which related to the roll out of the Rural Social Scheme (RSS). This scheme encourages social inclusion type activities, but those eligible to apply must be from the farming/ fishing industry and in receipt of certain benefits. This minimises the numbers who can benefit from the Scheme which has much merit for those who can access it.

The Working Group welcomed the recent announcement by Minister Killeen & Minister Martin to remove the 3-year cap for those over 55years (up to a maximum of 6 years). However, the Group believes that there are many more adaptations which could be made to the current scheme which would enhance the scheme in County Clare.

Social Exclusion/Inclusion : Awareness is the Key (2004)

Shannon & District Area Network recently commissioned this report and held workshops with community and voluntary groups in the area to raise understanding and awareness of the complex issues surrounding this topic.

Report indicates that while the region is outwardly perceived as being prosperous there are high levels of sufferance and deprivation and isolation within the region. These need to be fully identified and specific measurable actions put in place to address.

Report highlights to its audience what is involved in Social Inclusion and Social Exclusion and that acceptance and understanding of the problem is the first step to addressing issues.

Shannon Area Network, and the Clare Community Forum, as public platforms, need to work with their local community groups to implement recommendations as outlined in the report.
