Community and Voluntary - Local Area Networks

Map of five Local Area Networks

Five Local Area Networks have been established in North Clare, East Clare, West Clare, the Shannon area and the Ennis area. They have been established to involve all community, voluntary and local development groups from the area who meet the membership criteria.

Each Local Area Network nominates five of its' members to sit on the Clare Community Forum (CCF). The Clare Community Forum in turn has two representatives as members of the Clare County Development Board. This structure is designed to ensure that the voice of all the representative voluntary and community groups in the local areas are adequately and effectively represented at local and county level..

In addition to representation on the CCF and CDB the network structure will enable community groups to communicate with each other, exchange ideas and experience, develop new skills and knowledge, organise themselves and address issues on a collective basis, for example the Area Networks will nominate representatives to meet with the Area Committees of Clare County Council.

The leading community and voluntary organisations have played a leading role to date in the development of these Networks. The work is at an early stage of development, and it is expected that as the County Development Board process develops, more and more representative local groups will play a part in their Local Area Network.
