Roles & Functions of the County Development Board (CDB)

What is the role of the County Development Board (CDB)?

The CDB represents a new approach to the organisation of local development. The CDB will lead to more effective co-ordination and integration between the various public agencies operating within the county. This will result in an improved service to meet the needs of local communities within the county.

The key responsibility of the CDB is the preparation and implementation of a ten year Integrated Strategy for the Economic, Social and Cultural development of County Clare.

What are the Short-Term objectives?

From its inception, the CDB will support liaison between the agencies and sectors represented on the Board. This might involve co-operation on plans/initiatives for the county, fostering joint approaches, where practical, and progressively moving towards more co-ordinated planning and action.

In order to support this approach, the various bodies represented on the CDB should inform the Board of its current and planned activities.

What is the Statutory Basis of the CDB?

The Local Government Act 2001 provides the Statutory Basis for the CDB and its attendant strategies.

What status has the CDB as an organisation?

The CDB will operate autonomously but under the local government umbrella and will be chaired by the County Council nominee.
