April 17th 2007 : CLÁR Townland Bilingual Signage

The Department of Community, Rural
and Gaeltacht Affairs has advised that funding is available
under the Townland Bilingual Signage Scheme for CLÁR areas
in County Clare for 2007. This scheme is being co-ordinated by the
Clare County Development Board through the Community and Enterprise
Section of Clare County Council.
Community Groups who wish to apply for this funding are now invited
to submit their applications.
Under this scheme
- Signs are to be done in stone
- Townland name must be in both English and Irish and must be
of equal size
- Funding is provided equally by CLÁR, Foras Na Gaeilge
and the Local Community – subject to a maximum of €6,000
per Parish/Area
Community Groups must arrange and pay for the work to be carried
out
Applications should include:-
- Name of Community Group and Contact Details
- Written letter detailing the number and location of the signs
proposed.
- Quotation for the cost of the signs.
- Written confirmation that the proposed townland is in the CLÁR
area of County Clare. (contact Franchise Section of Clare County
Council)
- Written confirmation of approval regarding the proposed locations
of the signs from your Local Area Office or the Planning Department.
- Written confirmation from the Place Names Branch of the Department
of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs of the Irish translation
of the townlands proposed.
